2010 Events
This year DMA Women’s Forum had around 40 members who actively participated in various events that were organized throughout the year.
Taste of Kerala cooking class
Women’s Forum organized a cooking class for its members at the residence of Mini and Saijan on March 13th, 2010. Plum cake/Fruit cake recipes were shared by Mrs. Jibi Kuriakose and Mrs. Teresa George as part of this. Almost 25 members attended this event and tasted the delicious cake and Vattayappam. These recipes were later on published in Dhwani as well.
Hospitality House Charity Event
Like previous years DMA women's forum executed a charity event for Walled Lake Hospitality House on August 14, 2010. The mission of Hospitality House in Walled Lake is to end hunger in our community by providing food and necessities to that in need. Every year, Hospitality House provides clients in kindergarten through 12th grade with backpacks full of school supplies. This year DMA Women Forum joined hands with the executive members to donate backpacks and schools supplies for the needy kids. We were able to collect school supplies worth around $1000 for different age groups. The collected supplies were donated to hospitality house on August 14, 2010. The staff at the hospitality house was very appreciative of the help that DMA provided.
Malayalam Class
DMA organized Malayalam classes for the kids during summer this year starting in June till September. Classes were started at two locations; Troy & Novi. There were around 40 students enrolled in the Malayalam class. The Troy class was organized and conducted by DMA Executive member Mr. Surendran Nair, and Novi classes were jointly conducted by Mrs. Jency Shaji’s parents who have come from Kerala for a vacation and by other Women’s forum members.
Ladies Day Out
A ladies outing was organized for the members on May 22, 2010 to have some fun time away from work and home. Almost 20 ladies met at Novi bowling for bowling and for dinner later at Mirchi’s restaurant.
Other activities
The women’s forum also assisted DMA in conducting the first ever Youth festival function as a part of Vishu /Easter celebrations in April. Women’s forum provided an opportunity for its members to bring out the talents in them during the various functions held throughout the year. Various dances and songs were organized as part of the DMA functions where the WF members actively participated. DMA organized a Malayalam class for the kids during summer this year. The WF members took key role in organizing various entertainment programs for kids and ladies in the Onam celebration, Keralotsavam, family night and picnic. Over all, this women’s forum stood for the success of DMA’s motives and activities and provided great motivation for new members to DMA family.
